This week brought an end to one of the strangest school years that we have seen in as long as I can remember. While this year was an extremely unique one. I would argue that it just might be the most important year in our children's development. Our children learned so much more than the typical academic lessons from this year. They learned how to adapt to any circumstance, and they learned how to do it at a moment's notice. Most of the students, and teachers, we able to adapt without complaint. The parents, however, seemed to struggle with making the changes.

This year, we all learned that we cannot possibly be prepared for everything. No matter what we do, life will always throw us curveballs, and we never know when they are coming. The people who are totally locked into a routine and are inflexible will inevitably will find making these changes more challenging. Typically the longer we have a routine the harder that it can be to alter that routine.

So now that your routine has been disrupted, what are you going to do to make sure that you do not fall into the same trap again? What changes to the routine did you love? Hold on to them! What changes did you hate? Make sure that you get rid of those.

This school year also taught us that not all learning comes in a classroom, and not all work is done in an office. Our children learned to attend school while sitting in their bedrooms in their pajamas. Our teachers had to learn how to instruct their students in totally new ways. We all had to learn how to do our jobs, while helping our children, and working from our homes. We did more Zoom calls and Google Meets than I care to count. All of these things have better prepared us to be able to adapt to any future issues that we may face. And we know that we will have to learn, improvise, adapt, and overcome the next time that life throws us a curveball.  And you know that it will, because it always does!

All in all, I would say that we as a community were able to make this a successful school year for our children. And I cannot thank the teachers enough for their tireless work in doing all that they could to educate their students in this crazy pandemic environment!

What lessons did you learn this year?
